Kira Coldspring: The Hunt for Jorsh

Exterior Description

On the mossy northern edge of Belladonna, nestled against the treeline of Whispering Pines, lies Onyx’s cottage. At first glance, it appears to be a humble dwarven stone home built into the hillside — a moss-cloaked roof, rune-carved chimney puffing smoke, and ivy creeping up the iron-latched shutters. A solitary birch tree glows faintly in the moonlight, leafless and watchful. Protective runes encircle the grounds, creating a subtle barrier. Any creature with hostile intent must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom save or involuntarily turn back in dread. Beneath the windowsill, smooth fist-sized stones inscribed with celestial runes glow and shift color depending on the alignment of those nearby.

Interior Description

Hearth Room: A circular hearth blazes eternally in a silver brazier etched with the spiral sun symbol of Adonais. Hanging from the beams are windchimes crafted from shattered weapons. The air is thick with the scents of herbs, old resin, and parchment. A hidden trigger beneath the hearthstone opens the path to the Subterranean Sanctum.
Scroll Alcove and Altar: Scroll racks surround a shrine to the "Old Light." Ancient texts in Dwarvish and Celestial line the walls. The altar holds relics:
- Tears of Adonais: 1/day healing pool of 20 HP or restores a lost limb
- Chime of Judgment: Rings once per decade to foretell Yaldaboath’s return
- A locked compartment that opens only with a DC 22 Religion check or divine blood
Onyx’s Sleeping Quarters: Spartan stone bed, basic furnishings, and a journal titled "The Ashfall Dreams." Inside the drawer: a carved music box from Baider and a secret painting of a young Kira Coldspring.
Subterranean Sanctum (Hidden Room): A luminous crystal chamber accessible by speaking "Adonais" in Celestial. Inside:
- Walls of living crystal pulsing with golden light
- A massive floor disc depicting Adonais’s battle with Yaldaboath
- A suspended globe of divine water showing infernal activity
- Pillar of Memory: Holds Onyx’s sealed divine essence, still dormant

Backstory

Once the Archon Adonais, guardian of mortal choice, Onyx sacrificed his divine form to seal away the demon god Yaldaboath. Rather than fade, his essence reincarnated in mortal flesh, sleeping between ages. As Onyx, he serves quietly as Belladonna’s elder cleric of the Old Light. But he has begun to dream again — visions of the Ash Eclipse, a sign that Yaldaboath stirs once more.
